An annex of award-winning artist Evert Ploeg’s main studio work, The Portrait Sketch is a boutique business specialising in children’s fine art portraiture, and is managed by his partner, Ivana Daniele.
Our aim is to not only provide you with a unique and creative image of your child, but also a wonderfully original piece of art capturing them at a special time in their life. In an age of multi media saturation, The Portrait Sketch delivers an exceptionally individual image; a portrait created by hand, a portrait that has that something special with those inherent natural characteristics; the texture of the paper, the strokes of charcoal, and most importantly, the ‘interpretation’ only an artist can see and make - this is what makes original art collectable and valuable.
Who is the Artist ?
Evert Ploeg is one of Australia’s most highly regarded portrait artists and is a recipient of numerous national and international awards and accolades. A regular competitor in Australia’s prestigious Archibald Portrait Prize, he has twice won the coveted Archibald People’s Choice Award in 1999 & 2007, and it’s Packing Room Prize in 2004. In 2005 he was both an Exceptional Merit Award Winner at The Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition in Washington DC, and was Winner of the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize.
Evert’s work is well represented in both public and private collections, including those of The University of Melbourne, The Private Collection of The ABC, The Australian War Memorial and the permanent collection of The Australian National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
The artwork Evert has developed for The Portrait Sketch has a consistency that is very much representational, yet loose and contemporary in manner. These portraits have a spontaneity to them that will still look dynamic and fresh even when your child has grown to an adult.
